Yara, fifteen, and her cousin Adam, thirteen, were staying with their grandmother. One morning she said, "Please buy some saffron in the old market." They were too proud to ask the way, so they split up.
Soon both were lost in a maze of alleys with sacks of spices, copper pots and sellers calling out. Different shopkeepers helped them, but not very well. By luck, they both ended up at a tiny tea stall. A girl called Sara gave them hot tea, drew them a map on a napkin and would not take any money.
They got home late, with the saffron and a story. Grandmother laughed. "I went to school with Sara's grandmother!" she said.
