How it works
-
01
Set your context
Choose the language you're practicing, your level and your native language, so answers fit what you already know.
-
02
Ask about the language
Ask about grammar, vocabulary, corrections, translation or study tips. The tutor remembers the last 20 messages, and your chats are saved.
-
03
Switch to voice
Push to talk. Ask mode gives short answers explained in your native language; Practice mode replies in the target language and keeps you talking.
-
04
Look up a word
The dictionary gives meaning, part of speech, synonyms, antonyms, four examples, etymology, a cultural note and related words. Save it to your flashcards.
What the AI tutor is
LingunAI’s AI tutor is a chat tutor that does one job: help you learn a language. Ask it about vocabulary, grammar, corrections, translation, conversation practice or study tips, and it answers with your level and native language in mind. It doesn’t answer questions outside language learning, so the conversation stays on task.
Typical questions:
- “What’s the difference between ser and estar?”
- “When do I use savoir, and when connaître?”
- “Is this sentence natural, and how would people actually say it?”
- “How do I say ‘I’ve been waiting for an hour’ in Italian?”
- “How should I review vocabulary at B1?”
The tutor remembers the last 20 messages, so you can ask follow-up questions without repeating yourself, and your chat history is saved for later. Each message costs 1 credit. When a reply contains a word worth keeping, select it and choose “Add to Flashcard”.
Voice mode: Ask and Practice
The chat page also has a voice mode that works push to talk, with two modes:
- Ask mode gives short answers, explained in your native language. Use it for quick questions while you study, like checking a word or a rule.
- Practice mode replies briefly in the language you’re learning and usually ends with a question, so the conversation keeps moving. Use it as a warm-up or for free conversation without a set scene.
A voice message costs 1 credit, the same as a typed one. For structured speaking practice with a score and corrections at the end, use roleplay instead: it puts you in a scene such as a job interview or a doctor visit and reviews your side of the conversation when you finish.
The AI dictionary
LingunAI’s dictionary is an AI dictionary for language learners that explains a word in its own language. Look up a word and the entry gives you:
- meaning and part of speech
- synonyms and antonyms
- four example sentences
- etymology
- a cultural note
- related words
From the entry, you can save the word to your flashcards. Each lookup costs 1 credit. The dictionary doesn’t include IPA transcriptions or recorded pronunciation.
Writing the whole entry in the word’s own language turns every lookup into a short piece of reading practice. From about B1, a definition in the language you’re learning is usually readable, and it keeps you thinking in that language instead of translating. At A1 and A2, ask the tutor instead, and it can explain the word in your native language.
Tips for getting the most from it
- Ask for examples at your level. A request like “Give me three B1 sentences with aunque” gets you material you can read and reuse.
- Paste your own sentences. Asking “Is this correct?” about something you wrote gets you a correction and an explanation tied to your own words, not a textbook example.
- Ask why, not just what. A question about why a form is used teaches you the rule behind the correction, so you can apply it next time.
- Save as you go. Select useful words in the tutor’s replies and add them to your flashcards, so the answer turns into review.
How it connects to the rest of LingunAI
The tutor is where questions go when something you read doesn’t make sense. Read an AI-generated story or an article at your level, bring the sentence that confused you to the tutor, and save the words worth keeping as flashcards. For checking a longer text you wrote, the grammar coach gives a score from 0 to 100 and a reason for every change it makes.
Questions, answered
01 What can an AI language tutor help with?
LingunAI's AI tutor answers questions about vocabulary, grammar, corrections, translation, conversation practice and study tips, and it sticks to language learning. It uses your level and native language to pitch its explanations, and it remembers the last 20 messages so you can ask follow-up questions.
02 Can I ask an AI tutor grammar questions?
Yes. Ask why a sentence is wrong, when to use one tense instead of another, or how a structure works, and the tutor explains it with your level and native language in mind. Your chat history is saved, so you can come back to an explanation later.
03 Can I talk to the AI tutor out loud?
Yes. Voice mode on the chat page works push to talk. In Ask mode you get short answers explained in your native language; in Practice mode the tutor replies briefly in the language you're learning and usually ends with a question to keep you talking.
04 Is there an AI dictionary for language learners?
LingunAI's dictionary explains a word in its own language, with its meaning, part of speech, synonyms, antonyms, four example sentences, etymology, a cultural note and related words. You can save the word to your flashcards from the entry, and each lookup costs 1 credit.
05 How much does the AI tutor cost?
Each tutor message costs 1 AI credit, typed or spoken, and each dictionary lookup costs 1 credit. The free plan includes a one-time allowance of credits with no card required, and paid plans add credits every month.
