Privacy Policy

LingunAI ("we", "us", or "our") operates the LingunAI language learning platform at lingunai.com. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

When you create an account or use our service, we collect:

Account data: username, email address, and hashed password.
Usage data: features you use (stories, podcasts, flashcards, grammar checks, roleplay sessions) and how often you use them.
Payment data: billing name, email, and transaction records. Card details are processed directly by our payment provider (Stripe) and never stored on our servers.
Device data: IP address, browser user agent, and a device fingerprint hash used to prevent abuse of the free plan.
Content you generate: stories, flashcards, and other learning content you create within the app.

2. How We Use Your Information

To create and manage your account.
To deliver the features of the service (AI-generated content, flashcard reviews, grammar checks, etc.).
To enforce usage limits and subscription plans.
To send transactional emails (email verification, password reset). We do not send marketing emails without your consent.
To monitor and improve the platform and prevent abuse.

3. AI Processing

LingunAI uses third-party large language model providers to generate content (stories, podcasts, grammar feedback, etc.). When you use these features, including AI Magic Fill in our browser extension, the text you submit (topics, words, prompts, articles you paste to be rewritten) is sent to these providers for processing. We do not share your name, email, or account details with AI providers.

4. Browser Extension

The LingunAI Flashcards extension for Google Chrome lets you save words and phrases you select on other websites as flashcards in your LingunAI account, and send a passage you select to the LingunAI article rewriter. This section explains exactly what it does with your data.

What it reads: the extension runs on the web pages you visit so it can notice when you select text. It only looks at the text you select, and only to show the "Add to Flashcard" button (for a word or short phrase) and the "Rewrite as article" button next to it. It does not read the rest of the page, and it does not run on lingunai.com itself.
Rewrite as article: when you click this button, the extension opens lingunai.com/article in a new browser tab with the text you selected placed after a # in the web address. Browsers do not send that part of an address to any server, so we do not receive the text at this point. The page moves it into a text box and removes it from the address bar. We receive the text only if you then press Rewrite, and it is then processed as described in AI Processing and uses credits from your plan. We keep a record that a rewrite happened, with its language, level and length, but not the text you submitted, the rewritten article, or the page the text came from.
What it sends to us: nothing leaves your browser until you act. When you add a card, we receive the word or phrase and the details in the form (language, deck, definition, synonyms, antonyms and example sentences). When you create a deck, we receive its name and language. We do not receive the address, title or content of the page you were on, and the extension does not collect your browsing history.
AI Magic Fill: if you click AI Magic Fill, the word or phrase and the chosen language are sent to our AI model provider to write the card details, as described in AI Processing. This uses credits from your plan.
Signing in: you connect the extension by signing in on lingunai.com and clicking Allow. The extension never sees your password. It receives a sign-in token that it stores in Chrome's extension storage on your computer, together with your username and the language you last used. Websites you visit cannot read this storage.
What we store about the connection: a one-way hash of the sign-in token (not the token itself), when it was created and last used, and when it expires. Cards you add are stored like any other flashcard in your account.
Disconnecting: clicking Sign out in the extension deletes the token from your computer and from our servers. Changing or resetting your password disconnects every connected extension, and tokens expire on their own after 90 days. Uninstalling the extension removes everything it stored on your computer.
No ads or tracking: the extension contains no advertising, analytics or third-party tracking code, and we do not sell or share the data it sends us except as described in this policy.

The use of information received through the extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Data from the extension is used only to provide the extension's single purpose (helping you study from text you select on web pages, by saving it as flashcards or rewriting it as a practice article) and is never used for advertising or to determine creditworthiness.

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:

Stripe — for payment processing.
AI model providers — for content generation (prompt text only, no account identifiers).
Google (AdSense) — to show ads on some pages to Free and Pro members. Google receives your IP address, browser details and the page being viewed; it does not receive your name, email or learning content. Premium members see no ads, and our pages send Google no advertising data about them.
Hosting and infrastructure providers — to operate the platform.

We may disclose data if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or financial compliance purposes.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you.
Request correction of inaccurate data.
Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
Object to or restrict certain processing.
Data portability (receive your data in a structured format).

8. Cookies

We use a session cookie to keep you logged in and a preference cookie to remember your theme (dark/light).

On Free and Pro plans, some pages show ads from Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads, measure them, and, with your consent, personalise them based on your visits to this and other websites. If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before any advertising cookies are set, and you can change your choice at any time through the privacy settings link on pages that show ads. If you decline, you may still see non-personalised ads.

You can learn how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and opt out of personalised ads at adssettings.google.com. Premium members see no ads, and our pages load no ad code for them.

9. Children's Privacy

LingunAI is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

10. International Transfers

Your data may be processed in countries outside your own, including the United States, where our infrastructure and AI providers are based. We take steps to ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
