Dina, who was fifteen, and Ivo, who was fourteen, were in the school science club with five other children and their teacher, Ms. Okonkwo. They tied a camera and a parachute to a big balloon. On Saturday the children counted down, and the balloon flew up into the clouds.
An hour later the signal stopped. The balloon was very high, and it burst. The children got into the teacher's van and searched for hours. At four o'clock they found a white box in a cabbage field. An old farmer, Mrs. Dolan, sat next to it. "Is this yours?" she asked. "My cow tried to eat the parachute."
At school the children looked at the photos. They saw clouds, a dark sky and a thin blue line: the edge of the Earth. The last photo showed a huge cow's nose. Everybody laughed.
