The First Joke

Yusuf is eleven. He moves to a new country. At school he understands one word in ten. At lunch he wants to say, "I am hungry." He says, "I am a sandwich!" The lunch lady gives him a pickle. Every night Yusuf learns five new words. After two months, he must speak for one minute. He says, "On my first day, I said: I am a sandwich." Everybody laughs. It is his first joke! At lunch he gets two pickles.
