Samuel Osei was a bus driver, and he was sixty-one. He knew every street, but he could not read well, and nobody knew his secret. One day a letter came from his granddaughter Grace. Samuel could not read it. He put it in his jacket pocket and carried it for thirty-one days.
Then he saw a poster at the bus depot: "Evening reading class, Tuesdays at seven." He drove past the school three times. Then he went in. The teacher, Ms. Lindqvist, said, "Everyone here started with the first letter." Samuel sat at the back and learned.
After four months he took out the letter and read it aloud: "Dear Grandpa, I lost a tooth. When are you coming? Love, Grace." He read it three times. Then he took a pen and wrote his first answer.
