One evening, a merchant came to a town in the desert. He carried a silver jar. "I sell moonlight," he said. Rich people offered him gold, but he shook his head.
A poor girl called Safiya had no gold. She only knew a lullaby that her mother used to sing. She hummed it softly, and the jar began to glow. The merchant smiled. "Moonlight cannot be bought," he said. "It can only be shared." He gave her the jar and left.
That night Safiya opened the jar on her roof. A soft light spread over the whole town. People sat quietly under it, and the children fell asleep.
