The Moreno family lives next to Mr. Haddad. He is old and stern. He never says good morning. His garden has a tall fence. The children's red ball flies over the fence. Lila rings his bell. "The ball is in the tomatoes," he says. "Walk on the stones." The next day the ball flies over again. Now the small gate is open, and there is a bucket of water. The children water the tomatoes every evening. In summer the small gate becomes a blue door. Mr. Haddad says, "Good morning!"
